“We celebrate love in all its beautiful forms. We love diversity and delight in the humanity and individuality of the people we work with, and the connection between them. We work hard to consider how we can be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive to all people.”

- Agnostic Scotland

Integrity, professionalism, sustainability, and heart.

  • Our Beliefs & Values

We believe in living well, in harmony and equality with all others, and with respect for our natural environment.

We hold an entirely undogmatic world view, endorsing no single religion or belief.

We are collaborative and open-minded, respecting the beliefs and values of individuals—whether secular, mixed-faith, spiritual, or Agnostic.

We endorse and support scientific progress and rational thinking. At the same time, we acknowledge our human limitations and consider it rational to recognise that we do not know everything. Some aspects of the universe and the world around us will always remain unexplained.

(And we think that is rather wonderful).

    Legal Weddings

Agnostic Scotland is recognised by the Scottish Government as a belief body. Through them, I am approved to apply for authorisation to solemnise the legal aspects of each marriage and civil partnership ceremony I conduct.

“In today’s Scotland, there are fewer formal rituals. But our souls still need them. Today, we need a safe space for our rites, our ceremonies. Somewhere where there are no stipulations on God. Or Gods. Or no God(s). Or on gender binaries. Or on what a family looks like. Or on what music you can and can’t sing, or play, or listen to. I am excited that Agnostic Scotland can hold those spaces, perform those rituals, celebrate those ceremonies. Everyone deserves a safe place to mark life’s milestones.”

    My Role

In 2019, I co-founded Agnostic Scotland with two wonderful celebrants who share my values-led, standards-driven approach.

I remain a Director (Chair) of Agnostic Scotland and - with my colleagues - have created a robust training and mentoring programme, which we aim to roll out every two-three years.

To create an organisation founded on the values of inclusivity, sustainability, community and kindness has been a dream come true for me - and the culmination of so many strands of my career so far.

We are gradually and mindfully training new celebrants, with the aspiration of becoming more diverse as a team and increasing our geographical reach to cover the whole of Scotland.
